HIlarious but true: Pierre Monteux, conductor anniversary

The French composer and conductor Pierre Monteux was born 150 years ago and Musical Opinion magazine has a feature about his in its January-March 2025 edition. Its hilarious that quote “Monteux was principal conductor of the LSO, having been app­ointed to the post at the age of 86: his contract with the LSO stipulated that he serve nothing less than a 25-year engagement.”
